Back in 2017, Porter Robinson announced his fantasy-themed alter ego, Virtual Self. With his announcement came a 5 track EP, filled with higher BPM and thumping trance influences that we’re not usually used to hearing from Porter. This hyperactive alter ego is heavily influenced by early 2000’s trance and video game music, which is very reminiscent to the good old Dance Dance Revolution days. The fact that this alter ego sounds completely different from 2014’s highly acclaimed project, World’s and 2016’s collaboration with Madeon, Shelter, just goes to show how amazing and brilliant Porter’s production skills are. We’re definitely excited to see what else Porter has cooking up in his brain.
Ghost Voices, one of the singles from the EP, is filled with crashing breakbeats and titanic synths, really giving off that sci-fi vibe. Check out the video below:
Virtual Self has been playing festivals all across the world and every clip on the internet shows how massively insane the production is. Through his life performances, Virtual Self takes his listeners on a journey to a completely new world, filled with strobing lights and beautiful visuals. Among the stacked line-up, Virtual Self is definitely one of the artists we are most excited to see this year.
