It’s safe to say that music festivals are finally back in full force! Taking place this past weekend, Hard Summer became the first large-scale music festival to return to LA after a long year of no live music. The sold out two-day festival made it’s debut at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, which is home to many of our favorite Insomniac events. The weekend was filled with a mix of special guests, unforgettable moments, and immaculate vibes.
With the Delta variant spreading in LA, you could feel a little tension in the air as festival goers were making their way through the entrance lines. But the festival did a great job supplying masks and hand sanitizer throughout the venue. There was even a free COVID-19 vaccine tent inside the grounds where people could pick their choice of Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson shots.
Insomniac’s team put in a massive amount of work to ensure that the health and safety of their attendees remained as the number one priority. The venue included 2,100 feet of misting water lines and 104 misting fans, along with 14 shade structures, plenty of felt grass sheets which covered parts of the boiling asphalt, and over 100 free water spouts that offered free water refills.
Spanning across 5 stages, Hard Summer brought in an incredibly stacked line-up of artists which was perfectly curated for music lovers of every genre.
In the pink tent, House music lovers were graced with performances by Soul Clap, Walker & Royce, VNSSA, Lee Floss, and so much more. But our favorite set in this tent was from the one and only Maya Jane Coles, who destroyed us with a heavy hitting deep house set.
Over at the purple stage, music fans got a nice blend of different genres with performances from Mr. Carmack, A-Trak, Kaytranada, Rubi Rose, and Don Toliver, who brought out Kali Uchis as a special guest.
The green stage brought the filth with the debut of super duo bass house team Bad Boys Club (Cray & GG Magree), along with a rare Old Skool Dubstep Set from the dubstep legend himself Skream.
Electronic fans were treated at the Harder Stage with B2B sets from Nitti Gritti & Wuki, and also Hulk Gang (4B and Flosstradamus). Rezz brought out actress-singer Dove Cameron for their performance of their new collaborative anthem “Taste of You”.
And last but most certainly not least, the Hard Stage unleashed headlining sets by Dillon Francis, 2 Chainz, Future, a grandiose B2B set from DJ Snake and Malaa, and a special inception set of RL Grime and Baauer’s new project, HÆRNY.
This year’s Hard Summer proved that even after a year of lockdown and uncertainty, we can all persevere through tough times. The two day festival brought in a crowd of over 160,000 guests who were graced with plenty of health and safety accommodations, a widely diverse line-up of artists and dj’s, and amazing vibes all around. We’re excited to see how this year goes with the continuation of festival season.
