According to Nielsen Entertainment and Billboard’s annual mid-year music industry report, Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” has been the most streamed track of 2013. After “Harlem Shake” videos went viral earlier this year, Baauer was thrust into the spotlight of the mainstream media, getting calls from everyone to make appearances, including Good Morning America (which he turned down). Despite the fact that the track was never intended to be a mainstream hit (read what Baauer had to say about its success here), it has racked up a massive 438,450,000 combined video and audio streams, surpassing other viral tracks such as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop”, and Psy’s “Gangnam Style”.
