The Lana Del Rey “Summertime Sadness” remix has, in the kindest words possible, been overplayed. Honestly I was a little annoyed when I approached my Soundcloud to listen to Hotel Garuda’s version for the first time, but low and behold, it was amazing. Set aside all your previous notions regarding what can be done with Lana’s original “Summertime Sadness”. Hotel Garuda will simply shatter them.
The first 15 seconds of the track start off with a smooth mix of Lana’s voice chopped up, into an almost 80’s synth serving as the background to Lana’s soft vocals. The electro compliments her voice better than I’ve heard any remix yet deliver. I especially enjoyed the bass mix up in the second verse that really brings the funk. Funk and Lana? Yes, Hotel Garuda made it possible.
Hands down this is the best remix I’ve ever heard of this track. It’s danceable, but also suitable for easy listening, and all in all a groovy, good-vibin’ track that restores faith in EDM’s capability to do Lana right.
