Long on the radar of trap enthusiasts everywhere, Hucci may only be 19 years old but he’s putting out some of the most well polished trap/hip-hop beats today. The pride of Brighton, UK, Ollie O’Neill is putting an end to the lame festival trap craze and has been bringing originality back into a genre which seemed to place the focus on sounding like the next guy.
All was quiet on Ollie’s front rounding out 2014, leaving many fans to wonder what he has in store for us heading into the new year. Those questions were answered in the form of a fresh 22 track EP titled 404 which gives fans all they could possibly ask for. Whether it’s slow, minimal trap, hip-hop backed beats, or certified Hucci bangers, there’s something for everyone on this big-time EP.
Although you’re encouraged to listen to it straight through for yourself, we were pleased to do the heavy lifting for you. Below are our favorite tracks off 404.
“Splash“
Gotta kick it off with this one. Sampling old school Jay Z lyrics is as good a place to begin as any if you’re looking to get some crowd reaction, with “H to the Izzo” being called upon in the early goings. Laptop speakers won’t do the bass justice, and all you’re left to do is bump this on your next car ride and mean mug your way down the road.
“Thir$t“
Getting hit with an eerie intro and whining synth, Hucci slows it down on “Thir$t” to make one of my favorite offerings on the EP. This is largely an instrumental beat, and with well timed vocal samples being thrown in throughout this has the instantly recognizable feel of classic Hucci through and through.
“Hitta VIP“
Hucci takes one of his latest hits and breathes new life into it. Originally released towards the end of last summer, “Hitta” receives the VIP treatment and sounds primed for letting loose on the summer festival circuit. This has a minimal trap sound reminiscent of UZ and isn’t flashy or in your face; to the contrary it’s just another well produced beat that’s easy to sit back and listen to.
“Mula“
A different vibe now, as rolling hi-hats take the spotlight after the 0:30 mark. Just as you begin to get comfortable and think you know what to expect, Ollie slows down and distorts the vocals at the 2:00 clip to shows why he’s one of the most well respected names in the genre.
Here across the pond in the US, Hucci sightings are hard to come by. However, if you haven’t gotten the chance to see him do his thing live you’re in luck. Announced at Spring Awakening Festival last week, we have hope it’s just the first of many fests we’ll see his name popping up on this summer. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for more dates on the horizon, and in the meantime stream the EP in its entirety below.
