Hulaween’s Decade Celebration: Spirit Lake’s Art Showcase Unveiled from Oct. 26-29

In a world of corporate-sponsored music events, Suwannee Hulaween stands out as a beacon for independent festivals. Celebrating its tenth-year anniversary from October 26 to October 29, 2023, at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida, Hulaween promises an unforgettable experience.

With an impressive lineup boasting performances from festival veterans like The String Cheese Incident and electro-soul sensation Pretty Lights, the music will undoubtedly keep attendees grooving. But Hulaween’s true crown jewel is its iconic Spirit Lake – a mesmerizing hub of artistry that offers festival-goers a chance to immerse themselves in a world crafted by talented sculptors, fire/metal workers, painters, thespians, and lighting experts.

This year, in a break from tradition and to honor its decade-long journey, Spirit Lake’s typically covert art offerings have been unveiled ahead of the festival. This transparency ensures that every artist and collective receives their due credit across various platforms, from the festival’s website to onsite signage.

Old favorites like the captivating projection mappings by Jasper & Shelby Mosher and Cory Glenn’s Incendia stage concept, which lights up the dance floor in unique ways, are set to return. The Mural Maze, a sprawling 15,000-square-foot installation that has been a fixture since Hulaween’s inception, will expand to include new spaces, spearheaded by the talented Ania Amador.

However, the excitement doesn’t stop at the classics. For its tenth anniversary, Spirit Lake will introduce 10 brand-new art installations. Among these is The Cosmic Portal by Tyler Schrader, a double-sided interactive wooden LED sculpture that intertwines nature and technology. Additionally, Emanuel Zarate Ortiz will present Alebrijes, monumental installations that draw from traditional Mexican storytelling.

Justin Bolognino, the newly minted Creative Director of Spirit Lake and CEO of META, brings his expertise from collaborations with musical giants like Skrillex and brand behemoths like Google. His vision has amplified the traditional charm of Spirit Lake while introducing fresh, innovative experiences.
