Dozens of cars were still stuck in the mud at the Hudson Project the Monday morning after the festival, keeping hundreds of festival-goers in their cars for more than 10 hours.
Posts to the Hudson Project’s Facebook page and on twitter under the hashtag #hudsonproject and #mudson indicate that some festival-goers have been without food, medical attention, water and bathrooms from Sunday evening until Monday morning. Many said they could not find Hudson Project staff members and that local sherirff’s deputies and security guards were less than helpful.
The festival was forced to shut down Sunday after severe weather moved into the area, canceling a highly anticipated performance by Bassnectar.
The Hudson Festival’s official Twitter stopped answering questions at about 3 a.m. Monday, despite a flood of questions sent to their account Monday m0rning asking when help would arrive for those still stuck.
Obviously it’s hard to plan for all weather extremes, but some of these first-person accounts make it seem that more could have been done to safely get festival-goers out of the venue.
The best synopsis we could find was posted to the Hudson Project’s Facebook page by user Kimberlee Levash. She said:
“Let it be known that Friday and Saturday were amazing, but the entirety of Sunday’s crisis ruined the entire weekend and festival. I am in disbelief about the complete and utter chaos that occurred. Knowing that the area is prone to severe weather, why was there no evacuation plan prepared? Why were we not warned about the storm until only about 30 minutes before it arrived? Hearing the forecast, the staff should have alerted everyone early Sunday morning that an evacuation would be necessary. I am lucky to be home right now, after being trapped in the mudslide of a parking lot from 8:30 last night until 6:30 this morning. During these 10 hours, I did not see one single Hudson Project staff member at all. There was not one staff member helping the hundreds of us that were stranded and stuck in the parking lot. The only sheriffs I saw were also of no help, and were having a damn joy ride on their quads. The icing on top of the cake was when two security guards stumbled to my car at 6 in the morning to tell me about how “turnt” they got last night. It’s absolutely mind boggling that there are still hundreds of people stuck and being offered no assistance, and there has not been one announcement or post on this page as to what is going on. The only way I got out was from essentially bribing the ONE tractor driver there with $40 to drag my car out. This entire situation is pitiful, embarrassing, and pathetic. Please, for the sake of the people, do not ever host this event again. I wish I could get a refund for the souvenir tank top I bought because I will not be caught dead representing such a shitty, disorganized, shit show of a festival, a refund for those “rain or shine” tickets, and a refund for the onsite parking that could hardly even be considered parking. Good luck to everyone who is still there!”
Please note that water is available in all of the campgrounds and our teams are making the rounds to distribute food as well. (3/3)
