When Ilario Alicante shows up to the party, he shows up with guns blazing. From his earlier years of delving deep into Pisa’s nightlife to craft his sound, to being the youngest DJ to ever perform at Time Warp to date, to positioning himself next to Adam Beyer on Ibiza’s biggest stage, the Italian DJ has always set himself up to make an explosive statement. His roster of achievements is nothing short of impressive; he continues to build on his accomplishments through his Berlin underground record label Deep Moves and with a number of his own original releases on the likes of Cocoon Recordings, VIRGO, and Drumcode.
For the past few years, Ilario Alicante has enjoyed something of an unintentional kinship with Adam Beyer on the white isle of Ibiza. Over the last three years, when the techno maven played his special annual set on the Amnesia Terrace for Cocoon, the Livorno native was given the chance to play right alongside him, ensuring his talents were on the radar of the Drumcode chief. And by all means, a little brazenness paid off. Ilario Alicante’s first taste of Drumcode Records came in the form of his 2016 single “Temporary,” featured on A-Sides Volume 4. Then earlier this year, he left his first heavy footprint on the label with his chart-topping debut EP Awakened.
Now, Ilario Alicante makes his return with the dynamic 6-track Figures & Echoes. This EP is a true rhythmic journey, full of pulsating darkness, hypnotic energy, and intense beats that will snake through every inch of your body. The opener “Figure RA” acts as the gripping, melodic interlude that will send you flying off to “The Acid Runner,” a true-to-its-name track characterized by echoing vocal effects and a piercing 303-line that hits with peak-time power. Next is “Virgo’s Echoes,” made up of an enduring synth line and lush, harmonious layers to create an atmospheric impact. The last leg of the journey takes it shape in “Third Eye,” a mover and shaker of a track, delivering an exhilarating dose of rave thanks to the hypnotizing riff that runs throughout. Then comes “Atonal,” a seven-minute after-hours anthem that will send you racing to the explosive, deep bass finale,”Leave Me.”
Ilario Alicante truly goes full throttle on Figures & Echoes, providing incredible production and so many satisfying surprises that you won’t know what to do with yourself when the EP comes to an inevitable close.
