North Carolina native illanthropy has been doing it big in the past year. Following up his smash hit mix for WUMP radio last month, the producer released his “Daycrawler EP” on underground bass label WUMP Collective, which features many of the unreleased tunes premiered in that mix.
Over the EP’s 8 tracks the producer pushes his own consistent sound while still delivering a variety of styles and vibes. Two things that are never absent, however, are immersive melodies and heavy basslines. Fans of old school Bassnectar will feel right at home, as illanthropy paints sonic pictures in a similar way as the veteran producer. With clear dedication illanthropy displays the same attention to detail and subtle variety that we see in Bassnectar’s work, which makes the EP majestic and captivating.
Along with the originals, the EP also includes a few remixes from illanthropy, all of which make the song his own while still maintaining a vibe that is different from his regular work. They are strategically placed throught the album, rather than at the end, once again proving the artist’s dedication to the sonic journey.
With Daycrawler we get a long stare into the heart of illanthropy, revealing his artistic identity. Here at RaverRafting we are excited to see how that identity evolves as he continues to grow bigger; we hope that he continues to stay as versatile and unapologetic as he is on this EP.
