EDC is just around the corner with under a month until we’re dancing under the electric sky. With a lineup that is tough to beat, this is sure to be EDC’s biggest yet as they celebrate their 25th anniversary. Leading up to the festival we’ll be showcasing some standout artists that are on our must see list for the festival. That first artist is none other than LP Giobbi.
When reading through her bio on her site, it made us have to stop and take a breath because LP Giobbi truly is a jack-of-all-trades. Not only is she a highly talented producer and DJ, but an entrepreneur, director, music curator, feminist, and, of course, the “piano house queen”. Giobbi has always had a close relationship with music. Growing up, Giobbi had an experimental piano teacher that would show her the freedom of expressing herself through piano, bongos, or dance. Sundays her and her family had their own holy service; the hymns were Grateful Dead albums and the church was their living room. This eventually lead to her getting a degree in Jazz Piano Performance from UC Berkeley before being discovered in a little college dive bar by Peter Franco, who had been helping produce Daft Punk records.
The fire in her heart and in those keys has shot her into stardom and the forefront of house heads everywhere. In 2018 her first release, “Amber Rose”, with hermixalot and Compute debuted and quickly set the stage for the type of house she was going to bring to the table. She continued to gain traction with dance floor heaters like “Gas Me Up” and “Angel” with Crush Club both of which bridge the gap between funk and techno. Some of Giobbi’s top releases of 2020 garnered millions of streams like her heartfelt piano house single, “Meet Again”, “Move Your Body” from the early months of this year, and most recently “Carry Us” with powerhouse vocals and piano chords that really stick with you and an incredibly beautiful remix of Sofi Tukker, Amadou & Mariam’s “Mon Cheri”.
She has received support from the likes of Sofi Tukker, Diplo, Madeon, Galantis, Jax Jones, and Hotel Garuda. Giobbi has graced the stages of major festivals such as Moogfest, Coachella, Burning Man, HARD Summer, SnowGlobe, North Coast Music Festival, and more. On top of all this, she has the time to be the music director of W Hotels and launch and run Femme House, an educational platform that addresses the lack of representation and equality in the EDM scene by empowering women and non binary producers to get into the studio. On Twitch she hosts Femme House Friday’s that highlights women DJ’s by having them do a production stream and conducting interviews. Giobbi’s platform has received support from Roland, Moog, Dolby, Ableton, and Native Instruments to help push her movement forward.
If you are in need of a good LP Giobbi session, you can check her out on Twitch, where she streams frequently. She has her own “House Hymn’s” Sunday segment on Insomniac’s channel and check out past sets where LP stopped by Sofi Tukker’s channel during quarantine to throw down some much needed piano house magic. The trio are pretty close, as they have co-founded Animal Talk. The record label is an amalgamation of entities; music imprint, publishing company, event brand traveling party and artist collective. We don’t know about you, but damn do we feel inspired.
LP Giobbi will be heating up the dance floor at EDC and we highly recommend checking out her set. Tickets for EDC are currently sold out, however you can potentially secure a ticket by lingering the official EDC Facebook Group.
