Infected Mushroom is back with another masterful blending of psy trance and cinematic overtones with “Spitfire,” one of the first of the genre to debut on Monstercat. Psy trance comes in and out of the attention of the EDM scene but lately it’s been making a huge comeback, with multi genre god Seven Lions dropping it at his sets and Ghastly throwing his own spin on it with his remix of IZII’s “Birds.” It’s refreshing to see artists expanding into other genres and it brings us back to those that are the ultimate psy trance groups, with Infected Mushroom being one of our favorites.
The Israeli duo always knows how to take their listeners on a journey, and that’s exactly how the track is built through and through. We start off with an orchestral inspired drop in, leaving listeners with anticipation to that addictive psy trance beat. Soon we begin to be put under with a women’s voice interplaying with the rhythm. Finally they release us into their trance inducing beat, having us sink further and further into it. Throughout the track we get an excellent mix of guitar chords, fast paced synths, and an overall sense of rapture that Infected Mushroom has perfected over their decade in the scene. They leave us feeling we just experienced an powerful trip and our fingers keep reaching for the repeat button.
