Announced earlier this month, Infrasound Festival in beautiful Black River Falls, WI has all the makings of something special. Whether it’s the Tipper lakeside sunrise set (one of two of the weekend), Benga coming out of retirement in a huge way, or the many big-time artists comprising the meat of the lineup, you can already get the sense that this won’t be your run of the mill cookie-cutter fest.
It’s great to appreciate the big names on a lineup, but highly accomplished artists don’t just pop up out of nowhere. Even Opiuo or Thriftworks were relative unknowns at some point in their careers. It’s easy to recognize great talent when it’s handed to you in the form of a headlining set, but what’s more satisfying is uncovering the early afternoon set to remember from an artist who’s about to be on everyones radar. After all, that’s more than half the fun.
We dove into the bottom portion of this talent stacked bill and chose three of our absolute favorites. We believe each of their sounds to be distinct and genre-pushing…the kind of sounds you’ll hear stick around for some time. Check out below for our darkhorse artists who might just take Infrasound 2015 by storm.
Bommer
Straight out of St. Louis, Bommer is out paving the way for himself with a unique, bouncy, HEAVY style of dubstep that is without many imitators. Zack Bommer is known for his live performances and fantastic mixing, an attribute many dubstep artists aren’t able to brag about. Bommer’s been extremely active on Soundcloud the past year, giving fans all the excuses they need to make his set a priority when the weekend of May 28th rolls around. Click play on “The Boogie Man” below and ready your stank face.
AtYyA
AtYyA might be one of the most interesting non-headliners on the lineup this year. Making use of binaural beats and 432hz tuning (also called the “God Note”) there could be more than meets the eye when you’re lulled into another dimension through his music. It’s hard to label this kind of sound, as there’s equal parts melodic dubstep, trip-hop, downtempo, and whatever else you can pull out of it. Pigeonholing this artist isn’t important though, because we’re more than content to wait and experience what AtYyA has to offer live.
Brightside
Making waves by opening for artists like ill.Gates, Break Science, and Paul Basic, it piques your interest as a fan to see what the commotion with Brightside is all about. Once again ditching any sort of preconceived genre, Eric Tully implements Middle Eastern, Asian, and Reggae vibes into his songs to form a psychedelic feeling all his own. His tracks are extremely pleasant to listen to and the highly refined sound evident on each is mature beyond his years. Check out “Supernovae” off the most recent SoulShine EP and make sure Brightside is on your must see list.
If you haven’t already scooped up your tickets be sure to get on it while they’re still at a reduced price. Phase 2 should round out an already fantastic lineup, and we can’t wait to see what the great atmosphere of Infrasound has to offer this year. Hope to see you all there!
