As if the lush rolling green hills and Georgia mountains that make up the site of this years CounterPoint Music and Arts Festival needed any help in the aesthetics department, interactive art installations will compliment the breath-taking scenery. Some of the onsite art includes sculptures, live art, lighting effects, and tree decor. Greg Mike, the festival art director, aims to not only compliment the natural beauty of the venue, but to build on it by using pops of color not usually seen in nature.
“My vision on this project was to take the beautiful CounterPoint lands and amplify it with a contemporary twist,” he says. “Working with a pop color palette, lighting effects, optical illusional sculptures mixed with a heavy influence of street and contemporary art my goal was to add visual stimulation and live elements which create movement and juxtaposition over the three-day festival.”
The center point of the art scene will be the Heineken House: 35-foot tall pyramid with 12 walls to be hand painted over the weekend. Nationally acclaimed artists from across the country will be in attendance. The multi-sensory experience will also include public wifi, a covered bar, lounge seating and lighting features.
Two other onsite installations will be provided by Ross Hepner and Taylor Kuzma who won a contest staged in conjunction with the Savannah College of Art and Design. The #CPFLOWER, inspired by color and nature, will provide shade during the day and illuminate at night. Their other project is a live string installation that incorporates the CounterPoint circle logo.
A custom photo booth, a “Counter-Kittens Scavenger Hunt,” and the community art wall at the Heineken House allows festival-goers to become fully engaged throughout the weekend. Follow Catlanta on Facebook to see when he’ll release his Counter-Kittens into the festival.
“To me, CounterPoint represents that optimism and transition, a celebration of the changes in our cultural and artistic landscape that also serves as an oasis in the chaos of our daily lives. This piece is meant to be a reminder of those times of optimistic change, crystallizing the spring of 2014.”
Weekend passes are only $199 and are sill available for purchase. This is one of the best bangs for your buck on the festival circuit this year.Don’t believe it? Just look at the full lineup.
