The sixth annual International Music Summit will take place in Ibiza May 22-24 2013 at Ibiza’s Gran Hotel. IMS has become one of the world’s premiere electronic dance music industry networking events. From artists and producers to global music and media brands the best in the business will be in Ibiza next spring celebrating and discussing the dance music movement. So get ready to pack your rave gloves, dance shoes and music equipment.
Beyond The Boom Boom
This year’s theme IMS: Beyond The Boom Boom and will be hosted Pete Tong, BBC Radio 1 DJ. The conference will end the Friday of Ibiza’s 2013 opening weekend—it wouldn’t be Electronic Dance Music with all work and no play.
“We’re deep in this huge boom period and we will curate this year’s event to look at what happens beyond the global explosion but also dig deep into our own scene and look at the importance of our business beyond the music in the nightclub. IMS 2013: Beyond the Boom Boom!” said co-creator of the event Ben Turner on the event’s site, Tong being Turner’s partner in creating the three day event.
Ibiza’s Gran Hotel
Ibiza’s five-star Gran Hotel will host the daily conferences, forums and interviews. The contemporary art focused hotel, whose design was inspired by life’s four main elements: earth, air, water and fire, seamlessly fits the pure and progressive intent of the multi-day conference. The hotel will help musicians connect with and discuss the state of EDM beyond the music and the clubs.
Speakers
Details of who the speakers at the music summit will be and what specific topics will be discussed have yet to be released. Some of last year’s consisted of a discussion with Above & Beyond regarding the emerging EDM market in India, a keynote interview with Diplo and Creamfields creator James Barton, addresses form executives at Twitter, Spotify, Foursquare and Youtube and some of the industry’s leading management groups and music labels.
“2012 saw IMS go from strength to strength, with the most impressive and authoritative panels and guest speakers to date, with 500 delegates in attendance…all sharing knowledge and ideas about growing their businesses in what has become one of the electronic industry’s key annual conventions,” as stated on the conference’s site.
After the Summit
The events following the music summit are half of what make the conference so exciting. The industry waits all year for Ibiza opening parties and, appropriately, the conference helps guide the Mediterranean island into it’s premiere partying season. Each Club has it’s own opening night. At Ushuaia, last year’s attendees experienced opening parties with sets by Porter Robinson, Calvin Harris, Shapeshifters and Bob Sinclair. Pacha’s opening weekend included performances by David Guetta, with Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada. Space’s opening party with Carl Cox and Sasha along with many more. Although it’s a bit too early for most clubs to be finalizing their opening plans, its confirmed that Space, Sankeys, DC10 and Ushuaia will all be throwing their opening parties throughout the week of and weekend after the music summit. With many more important details still to be releases, attendees can be sure of one thing—2013 is going to big.
