A few days ago Jack Beats‘ ‘Somebody To Love’ EP was released via OWSLA, this is their second EP of the year. Both their ‘Somebody To Love’ and ‘Careless‘ EP’s make up the album project that they’ve have been working on over the past eighteen months. The EP’s consist of records that push the Jack Beats sound into new territory, they’ve mentioned on their Facebook page that ‘Somebody To Love’ is filled with experimental productions.
The content of the ‘Somebody To Love’ EP includes; ‘Somebody to Love’ ft. Jess Mills, ‘Just a Beat’, ‘About to Get Fresh’ ft. Chiddy Bang and OV, ‘Knock You Down’, and ‘Storm’ ft. Kid Harpoon. If you purchase the EP on Beatport you’ll also receive the ‘Somebody to Love’, ‘About to Get Fresh’, ‘Knock You Down’, and ‘Storm’ instrumentals. Each track brings something different to the table.
The title track, ‘Somebody to Love’, featuring Jess Mills covers the lighter and more beautiful side of Jack Beats while still keeping the choppy electro sounds that we love. ‘Just A Beat’ on the other hand gets a little techy, this is what I think the duo meant by experimental, the tune offers bouncy sounds with a “What” and “Yea” vocal sample. ‘About to Get Fresh’ is more of a modern tune, the pair take their refurbished sound to the next level by inviting Chiddy Bang and OV to rap over it. ‘Knock You Down’ is my favorite record off of this five track effort, I first heard it on the ‘Progressions Mix’ that JB released a while back. The electro sounds and array of vocal samples complement each other nicely, the build up is long and the drop is extremely danceable. Lastly there is ‘Storm’ which houses emotional vocals by Kid Harpoon, it has a downtemp beat with a few faint piano melodies lingering in the background.
You can preview all five tracks below, if you like what you hear purchase the ‘Somebody To Love’ EP on Beatport.
