As the days grow longer and the countdown to festival season gets shorter we take the time to reflect on the first month of the year. There was a lot going on this month in terms of festivals, artists, and news so if you missed any of it you can check out our favorite happenings in the world of electronic music below.
Festival News
There were so many lineup announcements in January it felt like one was dropping every day. It got tough to keep everything straight after the 20th one dropped so we compiled what we feel are the most important news concerning our favorite summer activities.
We had The Festive Owl Confirming Bassnectar at Electric Forest and Counterpoint’s lineup drop along with news that they will allow car camping.
There was a 3-day Bassnectar Red Rocks announcement that had Bassheads daydreaming about the beauty that is Lorin in the foothills of the Rockies.
Lightning in a Bottle also announced that they will be making efforts to improve what is already an incredible festival, you can read up on those improvements here.
Check out who’s going to be CP ’15 below (just look at that Summer Vibes Stage)
Tour Announcements
In the tidal wave of festival announcements its possible for a few artist tours to get lost in the mess. We’re hyped for GRiZ when he comes into town. Eric Prydz also announced a 16 stop club-only tour that will run from February to March and make stops in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Montreal to name a few.
Space Jesus and Freddy Todd embarked on a space adventure on their Astronaut School tour that’s currently blasting off in the Northeast. Check out the event preview for more info and stay tuned for more tour info if you want to catch some futuristic, glitch-hopping bass-heavy beats and chill with some cool people.
New Music
If you can’t already tell, we’re really hyped for the new stuff that GRiZ is cooking up in his musical laboratory. “Stop Trippin” was the second single released off his upcoming album and we’ve worn out the play button on it. Check it below
Haywyre also released a sensual, funky tune “Insight” that we’ve been digging. The young man tears apart the piano and infuses elements of funk and dub.
Lastly, Mr. Carmack put out a heavy hip-hop beat “Nell” that is nothing short of thug. This that “bump it while you bounce on 22s through your neighborhood” kinda song. We love how he creates trappy bangers that are innovative and fresh. Check it
Mixes
G-Jones treated us to some unreleased tunes in his latest mix. Bleeps and bloops on point with some nasty bass junk that will have you scratching your head and bouncin around.
Amp Live’s mix for Gem and Jam festival in Arizona next weekend was another one of our favorites from this month. He creatively put together half an hours worth of tunes from the artists who will be performing.
Editorials
We had a Bassnectar editorial regarding live sets in response to an article our very own Halina wrote. This is required reading for anyone who calls themself a Basshead.
Amber made it all the way out to the BPM festival which she can only describe as “indescribable”. Definitely worth checking out if you’re thinking about taking a nice, relaxing vacation to Mexico. Her awesome photos are here.
Katie dug deep to find some overlooked tracks from 2014 that is a great resource if you find your current playlist getting a bit stale.
We got word that our “10 Most Sought After Bassnectar Pins” post from 2013 was getting a bit stale so we looked around and put together an updated list here.
And that’s it! The first month of the year gone and in the rear view. February is looking to be a great one. Stick with us for all the news, announcements, and music coming from the electronic music world. Much love fam
