Singularity, the California-based dubstep producer, has remixed a song that has been a staple for 90’s hip hop and a song that we’ve all heard before. Honestly, when I first listened to the track I wasn’t too impressed with this remix. I thought he could have done more with Jay-Z’s vocals; on the other hand though, why would you mess with something that’s already amazing?
However, the drop was what pulled me in. After the first chorus drops, “hit me” is what signifies the beginning of a dub-step build up with chimes that is very similar to Jay-Z’s “On to the Next One”.
I don’t really love this remix, but I don’t hate it either. I really like the drop, but the rest of the song pretty basic as far as any chopping to the original goes. Singularity is an excellent producer, and I’d personally like to see more from him.
