I entered day one of Electric Zoo with that pre-festival stomach in knots excitement that I always get and after entering the gates (a process that took almost no time at all) I was fortunate to find myself at Jaytech’s set at the Hilltop Arena. Having listened to his sophomore release Multiverse through a few times, I was eager to see what the Anjunabeats signee had to offer.
While the Hilltop Arena was less than half full, the energy of the crowd was tremendous. Jaytech’s set seemed to pull our shared emotions and excitement for the festival, music and the experiences that lay before us. It wasn’t overbearing and he didn’t force any hits on us, it was beautiful and elegant at the same time. Jaytech delivered the perfect opening set, a skill that is highly undervalued in many performers today.
When it ended with his own production Stranger featuring Steve Smith, the crowd slowly filtered out of the tent only to begin the next part of their Electric Zoo experience.
