Jaytech fundamentally changed the way people thought about progressive music. His 2012 album “Multiverse” is a progressive house masterpiece that continues to fills fans with colorful emotion. The single “New Vibe,”a major hit from the LP, essentially describes the album as a whole: A journey that introduces listeners to a new world in the progressive house universe.
Jaytech continues to make momentous progressive house music. His monthly radio show “Jaytech Music Podcast” features a huge variety of deep house and progressive/trance vibes. Jaytech took the time out to tell WRR about his upcoming tour, the inspiration for his distinct sound, and his plans for the future.

Do you usually work on Ableton, Logic, and Omnisphere or have you branched out to other DAWs?
Still Ableton and Logic – Ableton is still number one for me, however Logic just seems to yield better results for certain projects. Omnisphere is still a great love of mine, though I’m considering adding something like Nexus to my setup as it’s good for straight-up “dance music” synths. Hardware-wise I’d love a cool synth keyboard such as a Prophet, but I’d probably just spend all my time twiddling knobs and not getting anything done.
What fuels the creative process when developing a new track?
Keeping a cool head and going with the flow – I try not to stress too much about what a track is supposed to be, or what I haven’t managed to fix yet, and simply keep going until it’s finished. We tend to overthink these things, but often the best results come from switching off the inner monologue and doing what feels correct. I also think it’s good to be destructive in your creative process – sometimes you’ve gotta burn down something good to make way for something great.
What is the culture like at Anjuna Beats?
Busy. The scale of their projects and targets is what makes them a leader in the scene, and on launch days of releases or events it’s not unusual for the whole office to be in total overdrive.
So you have a month-long tour coming up, what new elements are you bringing to the shows?
The name for the tour (Code Red) actually comes from a collaboration track between Super8 Tab and myself which we’ll be unleashing on the world during the tour. For my own sets, I’ll be intro-ing some forthcoming singles of mine that delve into a more electro-progressive style. Can’t wait!
What’s your favorite part about touring?
Believe it or not, touring actually brings a great sense of balance into my life. When I’m at home in Berlin I am usually frantic with organising upcoming tours, releases, administrating websites and social media, not to mention doing radio shows, remixes and albums in the studio. It’s all on my own time and I have to plan and decide how it’s all going to get done. When I go on tour, my schedule is basically planned out for me for the whole time I’m on the road. Getting into a rhythm of arriving to a new city, getting settled, set up and then rocking a show before preparing for the next move can actually have quite a zen feel to it, as long as you keep focus and don’t party too hard. It’s nice to have that feeling of structure.
Do you have any collaboration plans in 2014?
Boom Jinx, Matt Fax, Super8 & Tab to name a few. More info on these soon!
Could you explain a little more about the various types of progressive house and where Jaytech fits in?
I would consider my style progressive house for the trance scene. I believe the two styles are very interchangeable, especially in today’s landscape where a trance track can be 128 BPM. There’s a bit of an overlap of the definition of “progressive house” ever since Beatport erroneously applied the term to the section of their website that sells pop EDM, but for me it has its roots in records from the likes of Sasha, John Digweed, Way Out West and Hybrid. These are people who were constantly pushing the envelope of depth of intelligence in dance music records. The irony of the fact that the term is now being used to describe the polar opposite of that is not lost on me.
Where do you see progressive heading in 2014, any anticipations?
Although the landscape has changed dramatically with the advent of viral, remarkable, sonically mind-bending music, the undercurrent of house and trance music has remained the same. I think 2014 will be the year we return to relative normality and incorporate all we’ve learnt along the way into that original, primal idea of enjoying music together and dancing.
Any new album plans in 2014?
