Jewelz & Sparks (formally known as Jewelz & Scott Sparks) easily spark curiosity with their high energy house style and incredible live performances. Between their podcast: Rush Hour Radio, a plethora of releases over the last year, and support from huge names like Hardwell, Tiesto and Guetta, Jewelz & Sparks have become one of the most outstanding groups to come out of the electronic music scene.
My first introduction to Jewelz & Sparks was “Unless We Forget feat. Quilla;” the most attractive element being their focus on upbeats, contrary to artists usual focus on downbeats, as well as extended 16 count rhythms throughout. Including quick, cut up moments in particular parts of the track and the gorgeous vocal input from Quilla makes “Unless We Forget” one for the record books. Another single blowing the lid off of any high energy tracks you’ve heard lately is “White Sun,” showcasing powerful drops that fill your speakers with a distinct, almost-ambient bassline.
But Jewelz & Sparks don’t put all their eggs in one basket; Rush Hour Radio showcases dynamism the duo strive to include in their sound. My favorite memory from Rush Hour Radio is “Jealous Sushi (Jewelz & Scott Sparks Mashup)” in episode #21.
I’ve never quite heard anything so progressive and magical in my life, the Chromeo vocal sample fits perfectly within the fluid assortment of Nom De Strip, Nezzo, and Benni Benassi that J&S stitched together, sounding as if the parts were originally made to fit together.
The duo have alot planned for 2014, they recently dropped “Kingdom,” a epic single that zones in on big-room vibes and dark, echoey melodies. The bridge features a surprising drum and vocal break that gives the song a satisfying dose of soul. “Kingdom” was released on Fedde Le Grand’s label, Flamingo Recordings. J&S are excited to continue their partnership with Fedde Le Grand and Flamingo Recordings.
