Although still relatively new to the scene, Sydney’s Jimi Frew has already released on labels such as Big Fish and Revealed, with his tunes supported across the DJ circuit – from Tommy Trash to David Guetta. He now brings an original single to John Dahlback’s Mutants Records, in the form of “Yalla.” To put it quite simply, this is an explosion of sounds.
Frew is quoted to have said he is “passionate about big room, electro house which is a little left of center” – and “Yalla” is a prime example of this. Built around a dance floor ready beat, shards of vocals penetrate through the melody as twangs of guitar add further fuel. Almost sinister as it soars towards a climax, it then ebbs away quite subtly. This is sophisticated club music, with Frew’s ability to layer sounds displayed clearly.
