Upcoming DJ and producer ‘Joe Stone’ has recently released his striker ‘The Party’ and the debute single stayed on Beatport’s #1 spot for two weeks. It is a classic house remake of the famous R&B single ‘This Is How We Do It’ of legend Montell Jordan and several vocals and other aspects of the original single are included in Joe Stone’s track. ‘The Party’ is still played all over the scene and Joe Stone is ready to share his opinion and experience with the single with WRR.
Your debut single ‘The Party’ has become a massive hit. Did you expect this single to become a number one hit at the charts?
I didn’t expect it to be this big but I definitely had a good feeling about this one.
What inspired you to produce this single and how did you came up with the idea to create a remake of Montell Jordan’s ‘This Is How We Do It’?
What inspired me were the old house classics like ‘Show Me Love’ from Robin Sand ‘Push The Feeling On’ from The Nightcrawlers. Plus I always wanted to do something with the world famous vocals from ‘This Is How We Do It’. You play around with it and voila… 🙂
Would you say this brand new single contributes to your own style of music production?
In a sense, I would say yes, because of the groovy beat that sounds a bit different. Of course, the whole future house movement is also a good source of inspiration, although I like to add my own flavor to this, including influences from the old skool house sounds..
‘The Party’ is a real groovy house track, what triggered you to produce this kind of house music and in what direction do you want to take your music?
There’s not really a direction. I make music according to how I feel at that moment at that particular time. But I’ll certainly keep it groovy and try to make it sound a little different than the rest.
We know that ‘The Party’ has become a great success with the public. What do you think is special about the single?
The funny thing is that I didn’t use the famous phrase ‘this is how we do it’ but rather cut a new phrase from parts of the verses. It would be too easy to use the old chorus. As it happened, the new phrase fitted perfectly on the bassline.
You are a Dutch DJ, when did you realize that your music started to grow internationally and how does it feel?
It started with support from big DJs like Oliver Heldens, The Magician and Martin Solveig. It circulated on the internet for three months and people discussed who it could be. Later it got picked up by the masses. Firebeatz also made their own twist of ‘The Party’ which has turned into an official remix! That version got used by Martin Garrix and Calvin Harris. The support on ‘The Party’ is crazy and it feels amazing! Like your work is being recognized.
What is your favorite kind of music? Who is your hero?
Well, that would be house music because it’s so versatile. My heroes would be Armand van Helden, Daft Punk and Michael Jackson.
What do you think of house music being produced nowadays in general? Do you see some other talents coming up?
It all goes pretty fast. Information goes really fast. That’s also why you see a lot of really talented young DJ/producers come up. To name a few, I’d say Curbi, Lucas & Steve and Croatia Squad are the ones to watch right now.
Do you notice the fans rolling in on your socials or is it not so bad?
Well, I do get a lot of messages and people asking for advice. It’s certainly not bad and I try to take time to answer where I can. Although I don’t think I’m the best producer or anything for that matter. But when your track is in the charts, people want to know your opinion. I still keep learning everyday.
The success of ‘The Party’ will probably open some doors for you. What more can we expect from you in the future?
There’s definitely more music coming up, I can promise that. Can’t say too much about it yet, just stay tuned and follow me on Facebook. 😉
