JoeySuki is having the time of his life. He recently finished his North American tour with Holland hot-shots: Sick Individuals. Joey and SI come from the same region, an area where most of the world’s electronic music talent comes out of. For Joey, it’s track’s like “Life Is Calling” that distinctly show the dominating force behind his globally-influenced style. Every beat is crafted to sound full and energetic, making it easy to absorb the listener.
DJ success is something that takes time, dedication, and a lot of soul-searching. After the interview, I was happy to learn that JoeySuki focuses on essential principles off DJing as well as aspects of EDM culture. Joey’s been in the music game for over half a decade, so knowing exactly what’s best for success is a distinct strong point.

What is your favorite country and/or favorite venue to play in?
That’s difficult to say because every country or venue has his pro’s and con’s. I love South Africa and Indonesia but I also had a great time in Greece last year. I guess that was one of the best venues. It’s located on the beach and everybody is in swimming wear, I just love to play outdoors! The venue was called Starbeach.
What’s is more fulfilling touring or the studio time?
For me it’s touring. I love to be in the studio and create something new out of nothing but it can’t beat the feeling of a big crowd jumping on your new track! That’s just the best feeling in the world!
What the most important aspect of doing a live show?
I think it’s really important to be connected with the crowd. A lot of DJ’s nowadays forget that they are an entertainer and not just some one who is playing some records. You have to entertain the crowd and read the crowd on what they want! If they look tired after 15 minutes of jumping, give them some rest with a nice break and then continue with a powerful drop afterwards.
Any collaborations planned for 2014?
Yes I definitely want to do some special collaborations in 2014! I choose my collaborations very carefully because I have to have a musical and personal bond with that specific person. The beginning of 2014 will mostly be original and remix releases by the way.
Do you see any new genre’s forming or rising in popularity this year?
Yes, I think that deephouse will be an interesting genre this year. In the end of 2013 I heard it a lot of it on the radio and i’ve seen some DJ’s playing it as well, Dj’s like Tiesto in his podcast! So I think you should keep an eye on that genre!
How do you follow EDM? What brands do you follow to keep up with EDM culture?
I gave up on ‘following’ EDM haha. There are so many releases each day and 90% of them don’t even fit into my sets. I’m lucky to receive a lot of promo emails from labels with the latest or unreleased tracks, so that’s a way for me to keep up with the latest music. I also read Dancing Astronaut sometimes to keep up with the other news as well. But it’s impossible for me to keep up with everything that is happening right now, it’s just too much. I’m trying to focus on my own music and my own career!
What’s the coolest thing a fan has given you?
A schredded carbon bord with a handwritten text on it full of compliments about my music haha. He wrote it while he was jumping in the crowd!
