Swedish DJ and producer John Dahlback has been around for a while now and has composed several amazing albums during the last few years, such as ‘Winners & Fools’, ‘Mutants’ and ‘Kill The Silence’. At the start of the upcoming year, he is going to release a new brand track ‘Count To Ten’, produced together with Alexx Mack, which was revealed last month. It’s a powerful and feel good single to warm us up during those cold winter days, containing a catchy beat, heavy vocals and a great vibe.
The recognized musician is not only busy with his fresh creations. Next to producing music he is also busy with his radio show ‘Mutants’, where listeners can discover new music of diverse music genres. In our interview below, John Dahlack tells us more about the upcoming album, the production of ‘Count To Ten’ and his musical experiences from past and present.
When did you think your music career officially started?
I think it officially started when I got my first record deal when I was 15 or 16. It was a bit unsure before that to be honest, because I didn’t know if the music was good enough. But the first time I got a record with my name on it, I guess the career officially started.
How did you know you wanted a career in music?
That was early. I’ve always played instruments, and tried to start bands and stuff, so when I learned how to produce music on the computer by myself, things took of pretty quick.
How would you describe your sound?
It’s difficult because it’s very varied. I like to mix between genres to make things more interesting. I guess the common thing is that I always want a sound of melody to stick out. I’d never make anything that sounds too common or whatever, it needs to be original.
Your radio show Mutants Radio is being aired for quite a while now. Do you still enjoy doing this and why?
I do! Mostly because it’s my chance to find new music in every genre. I always start each show with deeper and techier stuff and then move on to more big room stuff. Right now we have a feature to include the best demo of the month, which gives new producers a chance to get heard.
Do you think Mutants Radio will keep existing for a while?
I hope so! We have focused more on bringing new talents to the table. It’s important, and sort of my duty, to release new and fresh music. And if you dig deep into the demo pile, you can find it.
Last month you released a new powerful track called ‘Count To Ten’ together with Alexx Mack. Are you satisfied with the results?
I am! It’s still very early but we have support from Avicii, Nicky Romero, Axwell Ingrosso and more. I love the track myself so I’m very happy with the results so far.
‘Count To Ten’ is one of the singles of your new album coming up in January, right? Can you tell us a little more about the album?
It’s very fresh! I really stepped out of the box on this one, and I’m a bit nervous about seeing the reactions. But I’m very happy with it! I’m very proud of each track and the whole album contains bits of everything.
What were your sources of inspiration for this new album?
The main inspiration was the goal to think out of the box, and try to do something that doesn’t feel common. It needs to feel original.
What makes it different from the albums you have produced so far?
I think it has more of a story than the others. I’m very happy with those too, but this feels more like an album instead of just a compilation of songs.
