Our latest obsession comes in the form of rising DJ and producer Johnny Trika’s new Fast Life EP.
Born and raised in Montreal, this Canadian native’s breakthrough played out in an almost Hollywood movie-like fashion. In the fall of 2013, he attended a Dubfire show where he handed the artists his USB. Dubfire responded by reaching out and helping him to curate an EP that would later be released on his label, SCI+TEC. Since then, the once aspiring DJ has released 15 tracks under his mentor’s label and has played major festivals and events such as BPM and Miami Music Week. He’s been dubbed as one of SCI+TEC’s “next generation” players and continuously receives support from industry heavyweights like Richie Hawtin. Most recently, he’s spent the month of May touring North America, playing alongside Dubfire at selected shows.
Johnny Trika’s latest work is a true testament to his schooling and experience up until this point. Fast Life is a 3-track EP featuring originals “Fast Life” and “Dreamless King.” Both songs are booming with a rolling bassline, offering a nice mixture of dark and light progressive notes throughout. The third track comes in the form of a “Fast Life” remix by Maskim Dark. Johnny Trika proudly said that “this is a special release for me as it’s the first time someone will remix one of my tracks.” Out now on Barcelona-based label Oneself, this EP showcases his amplifying skills as it marks his first release outside of SCI+TEC.
