Juicy Beach succeeded in it’s first ensemble outside southern Florida. Robbie Rivera had never taken Juicy Beach on the road before it’s debut at Governor’s Beach Club in NYC last Saturday, July, 14th presented by Made Event and Plexi PR. With it’s origin in the serene setting of Miami, the event in NYC had a grand task of maintaining the founded roots of the South Beach dance party. Location and carefully curated talent are the basis of the Juicy Brand itself. Governor’s Island played the perfect host (as close as you can get in NYC) while the lineup of talent was anything but lacking.
Hometown faithful DJ Paige kicked off the evening in style dropping vocal heavy club house that warmed everyone up and began to draw the crowd majority stage front. As the energy on the dance floor began to grow and the New York skyline began to flirt with the sunset, Paige dropped the highly anticipated Alex Beshada featured track ‘Leave It All Behind‘ which completed his set for me and seemed to satisfy the entire mass of NY house heads.
The evening continued to bounce along and the beats kept pumping. Stefano Noferini followed Paige and although he is known for more dexterious tech-house, he managed to blend that patented style with more anthem-ish house combining for hands up dance breakdowns.
EDX took the stage next and it’s probably safe to say that he was the night’s most pleasant surprise. Just a non-stop progressive house vibe and constant stimulative moments. Most impressive was his range of sound and instrumentation in production settled under tantalizing buildups and dance drops generated by such a unique spectrum of sound. His weekly Electric Area podcasts can be picked up here if you want a little dab of prog house glory. His set pace (you true edm’ers know what I mean) was conclusively similar to some of Avicii’s in my opinion.
Sultan and Ned Shepard are one of the most underrated live sets in all of dance music. The first time I caught them was completely by accident down in Miami at Ultra. Experienced one of the most raging dance parties I’ve ever been a part of in some small unforsaken tent and left without even knowing who it was that cultivated the experience. I later put the pieces together and was beyond stoked for their set at Juicy NYC. They are a hit parade of premiere remixes and the tempo they maintain is almost indescribable. If you see these two, don’t expect to check your phone or to stop moving and smiling for the remainder of the course. Literally everyone will be bouncing the whole time. These guys are the yum-yum sauce of live sets.
What isn’t there to say about Robbie Rivera? Anyone polished in the scene knows that he is a pinnacle in the game, a humble individual, and an animal behind the tables. Rivera along with his wife Monica (pictured below) are the driving force behind anything and everything Juicy Beach. Although Rivera gains accolades for his performances, it should be noted that Monica and his efforts are a recognizable part of the development of dance music done the right way – with a mission of facilitating an experience. Juicy Beach New York succeeded because of the talent chosen and the fitting venue that was it’s own little South Beach in the Big Apple.
