Update: Juicy J is now blaming this incident on “shady promoters”.
July 6th, 1:55 PM – Thousands of dedicated hip-hop fans left Club Cinema in Pompano, Florida, very disappointed last night after rapper Juicy J bailed on his set. The kicker? The hip-hop star left after being paid upfront for his performance. The show, priced at $40 for general admission, was scheduled to occur on the evening of July 5th.
According to promoters and show attendees, Juicy J arrived at Club Cinema shortly before his set. The promoters paid him upfront for his performance and the rapper left the club claiming to be taking a quick smoke break. However, Juicy J and his camaraderie quickly rushed to a vehicle and vacated the premises. Juicy’s management announced on Twitter that the he was never set to play the show and claimed false advertising even though Juicy arrived at the club and promoted the show on his social media accounts.
Juicy J not only disappointed promoters and his dedicated fan base alike but also broke the law. When an artist is booked to play at an event, an agreement is made in writing which agrees to a set pay rate based upon certain stipulations (most importantly of which is the promise that the act will perform in the first place). Generally money for a performance is given through a wire transfer to the artist’s agency, which makes this situation all the more problematic.
Several eye witnesses reported seeing the money exchange and subsequent departure of the artist. Promoters also claim Club Cinemas’s cameras caught and recorded all of the action.
