Julian Jeweil, yet another of Drumcode’s finest, is back with more new music this year in the shape of Space that boasts five gripping techno tracks. After Rolling was released at the start of 2017 that featured the banger of a track ‘Blue’, its seems there is no slowing down for this French DJ as this new EP features five pieces perfect for the dancefloor.
The title track ‘Space’ is reminiscent of techno that we knew and loved in the early 2000’s and the kicks epitomise what is sure to be how the genre will develop in the future. Vocal effects are at the core of this piece and the build up is definitely one to check out because of its smooth transition to a diluted climax.
In a similar vein, ‘South’ follows as floor filler and creates an oasis similar to that found in a dark warehouse due to the repetitive, yet light beats. ‘Answer’ should be familiar to true techno fans after it was featured on DCR368 Live from Loveland with Adam Beyer and again, Julian Jeweil showcases his talent for an excellent climax here.
‘Encke’ presents something slightly different with heavy bass and could be mistaken for a distorted version of an Alan Fitzpatrick classic and ‘Module’ is unique in its own way with spoken word and a little of groove and pizzazz.
