On July 6, Salt Lake City was graced by the presence of one of Dirtybird Records’ family royalty. The San Francisco-native based producer know as Justin Martin came with a USB full of bangers, ranging from tech-house to breaks-beats. The crowd within Soundwell was on their toes jumping around for hours; we haven’t seen one this lively in a while.
The opening DJ was one of SLC’s own DJ/Producers on the rise who goes by the name Nate Lowpass. He started the night out delivering tracks that were steady without too much pause in the breakdowns. Some were his own produced work or bootleg remixes that he was testing out live. No matter what he played, the artist showed veteran skill at just giving enough to make the crowd want more.
Justin Martin took control with a hungry crowd that just finished their appetizers and were clearly very eager for the main course. Throughout the night he continued dropping Dirtybird bangers as well as his numerous remixes from a variety of labels. Finally, the closing number came in the form of his breakbeats remix of “Set It Off ” by Strafe.
If there’s one massive takeaway we learned it’s that Justin Martin knows how to deliver one hell of an energy-filled set.
