Porter Robinson’s Mother album dropped late April and is still making a strong buzz today. The Skrillex-discovered electronic artist has shared so many gems over the years and the electronic music condition today just wouldn’t be the same without him. Juuku pays tribute to the living legend with his own edit of the single “Mother,” off the album.
Promptly titled “mother (juuku flip),” the single doesn’t juxtapose the theme of the original with something totally different, but rather enhances the current setting already present. With that said, juuku absolutely brings his own spice to the experience, the drop in particular being a highlight worth noting. Showering the speakers with a glistening gritty synth rhythm, the drop sends shivers down the spine and formats a euphoric vibe that stands out from the original. Glitch-oriented, trippy, and still holding on to that juuku sound the world continues to grow it’s love for, “mother (juuku flip),” does its justice in comparison to the original.
The flip of mother is the 2nd remix juuku has done of Porter, with ‘sad machine (juuku flip)’ being the other. When listened to side by side, they both put the end-listener in a world a bit hard to describe. Like a warm blanket of smooth sustained keys at one moment, but then a in-your-face, raw melodic drop with a choppy and shuddering feel at another. There’s overlap between the two, while the each have elements that make them stand on their own – they both undoubtedly ‘feel’ like juuku.
juuku has a knack for connecting his emotions right with his music. Coming off the heat from his Moving Castle signed EP, it’s no surprise that more music has been bestowed out from his music crate. The man is a music-making animal which his SoundCloud reflects.
