Jared Lucas (Kap Slap) began producing music in 2010. The student turned DJ was achieving his degree in Integrated Business & Engineering at Lehigh University as his career began to take off. Due to his demanding school schedule and perfectionist style, Jared was unable to dedicate the time needed to produce his own originals. Although unable to release his own singles, his mashups and bootlegs took off on their own and he went on his first tour in 2011. After graduating college, Kap Slap dedicated his time to his music and began rising through the scene faster than ever.
Not long ago he unleashed his single “Let It All Out”, Ft Angelika Vee that achieved over one million plays on Soundcloud. Days ago, his newest single “Felt This Good”, Ft M Bronx was released on Spotify and Apple Music. The progressive banger truly highlights Kap Slap’s talented production skills as an artist. This summer anthem arrives just in time for festival season and reminds you that progressive house can still reign supreme. In an industry of constantly changing musical taste, Kap Slap leaves an energetic and powerful mark on the progressive house scene that truly illustrates its colors. Written by M Bronx himself, the distinct vocals perfectly accent Kap Slap’s instrumentals to create a one of a kind single.
RaverRafting had the opportunity to talk to Kap Slap about his latest release and exactly what went into making it. You can check out our exclusive interview below!
This is your third original release, how is it different from your previous two?
Kap Slap: This is a really huge release for me. I fell in love with the vocal the second I heard it and I wanted to give this track the Kap Slap sound fans love but with a more modern vibe. Also everyone we’ve showed it to has been extremely supportive.
Would you define yourself as a progressive house artist? Do you think genres should define or label an artist?
Kap Slap: I think a track like my Burn Wild remix prove that it’s useless to try and categorize artists these days. I still have a soft spot in my heart for progressive house but I’d like to be viewed as a versatile artist and will be release whatever I want to without being limited by a label like that
The name of the song is “Felt This Good”, is there any meaning behind that? Do the lyrics have some sentimental value to you?
Kap Slap: The lyrics were written by M. BRONX and were meant to describe the twisted side of love. They were initially written in B flat major but we ended up changing the chords in order to give it more grit. Now it’s a song with happy sounding twisted lyrics over a G minor chord structure.
How much time went into producing this single? What was it like working with M Bronx?
Kap Slap: I had started working on the production of this on and off for almost a year. It took some time to get things moving initially, but once we did it was smooth sailing from there. M. Bronx and I were able to link up in LA back in August and it was amazing working with him as he is such a creative individual.
You’ve come a very long way as an artist, what do you think is in store for your future releases?
Kap Slap: An EP is definitely in the works, don’t have a timeframe for that yet though!
How can fans get involved in your latest release?
Kap Slap: I’ve focused building myself everywhere besides Spotify so if I could ask fans one thing, it would be to add to their playlists on Spotify and listen on Spotify!
Have you begun to stray away from mashups because your musical taste is changing?
Kap Slap: I wouldn’t say I’m straying away, I just am spending more time writing and productions originals and learning along the way. Has nothing to do with musical tastes, more about time management.
Specifically, what is your favorite part of the song?
Kap Slap: The part at the end of the bridge when Michael hits that last note, he got that first try in my studio!
Can we expect a debut album at some point in the future?
Kap Slap: First an EP, then maybe 😉
Is there anywhere specific you’d really like to perform? Or is there anyone specific you’d like to perform for?
Kap Slap: I’ve been lucky enough to play a fair amount of festivals but I would still love to play EDC, the Insomniac guys are awesome.
