As Halloween has come to a close, some of us are ready to move on to the other holidays left in the year while the rest are not ready to bury our favorite night of the year just yet. To keep those spooky vibes bubbling hot in the cauldron, you can enter an exclusive giveaway for a raver horror game, Strophagia, scroll through some of our favorite All Hallow’s Eve inspired EDM tracks, and now live your ghoulish fantasy with Caster’s new EP, Black Sands, which just dropped last Friday on Ophelia Records.
Since the inception of the project, Caster has been shrouded in mystery, with his first single release, “The Summoning”, only reaching the sound waves 12 months ago on New Dawn Collective. The producer has had a baseline of darkness and horror when experimenting with any genre, including dubstep, trance, drum and bass, melodic, mid tempo, and even seems to coin the term “witch trap”. Since then, we have seen a release every month and he has steadily grown in popularity. From partnering with SWARM on their anarchic collab, “Blood”, to landing a feature on the inaugural Ophelia Advent Series with “Chimera”, Caster has quickly impressed tastemakers in the industry, including Seven Lions and Excision.
In true Halloween fashion, Caster released his debut Ophelia EP, Black Sands, on the anniversary of his first single release. If you joined us for the Freesol Friday, you would have heard this incredible EP premiere and completely overtake all of your senses. When looking at his inspirations for the EP, Caster was influenced by Seven Lions, especially with his more experimental tracks like “Isis” and “Summer of the Occult”.
We’re wound up into an intriguing melody before coming face to face with a flush array of bass in “Ishtar”, drawing us in completely. Our journey continues with “Ifrit”, which we got to hear during the Seven Lions’ Halloween Visions stream. Layers of bass, growls, and biting cuts filter through static flute euphonies. Partnering with Earthlinger on “Khnum”, which is the name for an ancient Egyptian god of the Nile, we get an this beautiful arrangement of Egyptian instruments before getting a healthy dose of warbling dubstep. This track has really stuck with us and gets us moving. We find ourselves at the end with “Curse of the Silk Road”, with the last bits of sand falling to the bottom of the hourglass. We’re lead down the path with ethereal vocals before glitching bass and fierce rhythm cuts across our path. We enter in the battle against the curse with a psy trance climax and thankfully survive.
You can now stream Caster’s EP, Black Sands, on Spotify, Soundcloud, and Apple Music now. Be sure to keep up through his socials below so you don’t miss the next devilishly good release.
