Kill Paris joins DJ Shadow and even Calvin Harris to get kicked off of the decks for refusing to play mainstream music. Kill Paris was at M Nightclub in Honolulu, where he playing at their Back to School Wet Electric Promotion. It’s most surprising that he would get kicked off at a club in Hawaii.
Living the hilife, residents and students can get mainstream sets from macbook DJs whenever they want, but it’s rare that artists are able to travel out to the islands. After kicking Kill Paris off the decks, it may be a while before others look to schedule Hawaii into their agenda.
Got kicked off the stage at m nightclub tonight for not playing mainstream shit

Kill Paris recently did an interview with ElevateEDM where he explains a little bit more about the situation.
About 20 minutes in, I was told that I needed to play something “mainstream” which probably meant something “top 40?. To my dismay, I continued to play my remixes of such billboard hits like, Player’s “Baby Come Back” (Billboard no.1 1977) and Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover” (Billboard no.1 on the R&B charts 1979). I then proceeded to drop into Mark Morrison’s “Return of the Mack” (Billboard no.2 1997) before mixing back into a few of my originals. I was in the middle of my song “Slap Me” when I was told to cut the music.
Kill Paris talks about how getting kicked off of the decks typically only happens at the bottle service clubs where people are paying thousands of dollars and pretty much get whatever they want. He takes a quick shot at Avicii where he says he refuses to play “Levels”. Don’t expect to hear that in a KP set.
What resonates the most is his how he describes music.
“Music is a form of expression and it’s hard to take anyone seriously who says you’re expressing yourself wrong.”
Indirectly it sounds like he’s saying it’s hard to take M Nightclub seriously
