Followed up from his debut EP “Futures” which was released last May on Firepower Records, Konec has put out a strong release out in the form of the “Parallax EP”.
The EP opens with “Autonomy”, which acts as a prelude/intro track for the EP. With its arpeggio piano melodies, it sets a dark, moody theme for the whole EP.
It then leads into the next track, “Cannon” which is a trap song but with a Hardstyle twist, with its occasional distorted kick drums and catchy melodies that occur throughout the song.
Next up is the title track, “Parallax” which starts off with an old school Rave/Breaks style with techno stabs and high pitched vocals, before building into a huge Hardstyle/Big Room hybrid drop which packs a lot of punch with its hard hitting kick drums and huge plucky synths.
To close the EP is “Ritual”. Like “Parallax”, Ritual is a Hardstyle track, but more bass driven than the former with it’s grinding distorted basslines that are comparable to sounds of the track Railgun, from his Futures EP. The track then closes with a piano which ties with the intro and ends the EP perfectly.
Overall, I feel that Konec has grown as a producer since his Futures EP and the sounds of Parallax EP display this, and with support from the likes of Knife Party & Benga, I’d say Konec is one to look out for in 2014.
