These days EDM has shed its negative image and shown itself in a softer light. As DJs and fans all over the world spread the love not only for the EDM community but for causes they believe in, their positive energy is becoming a powerful force for change.
In this collaboration between musical heavyweights, Krewella and Headhunterz, the spotlight is on a current hateful trend that is gaining astonishing influence in the lives of young people – cyber bullying. The music video opens with a few vicious attacks on Yasmine and Jahan that are (sadly) all too real. After reading some of these disheartening messages they are invited to a rally with a group of fans by Headhunterz who are all affected by the same negativity.
The message these artists are conveying to fans is that no matter who you are, how successful you become, what your background is, there will always be people who are looking to bring you down. It is a message that every human being can relate to and feel for, even famous DJs.
“I used to get so mad, and then Jahan would just be like don’t comment back don’t respond, just let it go,” Yasmine says. “She really put that in my head like, if you don’t acknowledge it, it’s not really happening. It’s always going to be there, there are always going to be people saying bad things. If you don’t let it get to you, you can rise above it.”
Partnering with DoSomething.org for their #bullytext campaign, Krewella and Headhunterz have made it clear that they not only want us hear their message but in turn act on it. Get involved by visiting their website and learning about different ways you can handle bullying situations you encounter or witness. Every one of us is a soldier in the war against bullying. Don’t let the haters win.
