Krewella has effectively bridged the gap between American Pop Punk and EDM, so it makes complete sense that they would have a single with Travis Barker of Blink 182 and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy on their debut album. We just weren’t supposed to know yet as Yasmine leaked the news in an interview with Las Vegas Weekly.
Yasmine also talks about how the single is the culmination of her adolescence. Growing up as a punk rocker and listening to bands like Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Green Day and Fall Out Boy before transitioning into indie music and even singing in a band, all have strong influences in her music today.
Her description of Krewella was astute,
I don’t even know how to place us anymore. But that’s I guess a good thing. You don’t cater to one kind of fan. You cater to the people who never lost that love for pop-punk when they were 12, as much as anyone else.
Krewella’s crossover into other realms and genres is one of the reasons why they’re so successful. This collaboration is just going to stretch that even further.
