The first headlining EDM artist to appear on the Summer Camp Music Festival lineup was Girl Talk in 2008. The following year Bassnectar made the roster, and in 2010 Pretty Lights, Big Gigantic, and Ana Sia joined the party as some of the first electronic dance music artists to take the stage at this legendary festival.
Everyone has their own opinions regarding Krewella, whether it’s their very messy and public lawsuit or even their style of EDM…but for this petition to be relevant it’s about seven years too late.
Why is this important? Because with amazing bands playing this line up we sadly have Big G on this line-up which is enough EDM for us Scampers, but adding on Krewella is a big FUCK YOU to our faces.
The 2015 Summer Camp lineup is enough to make a grown man cry. You literally have to get down to the fourth tier of headliners before you stop wanting to hyperventilate from excitement. I mean twelve sets combined of Umphrey’s McGee, Moe, and Widespread Panic is a schedule straight up sent from the gods.
Now you’re trying to tell me that one hour and a half EDM set is really going to ruin an entire festival for you?
Where’s the Umph Love, friends? Are festivals not a celebration of acceptance, positivity, and bonding together in the spirit of community and love of music, whatever your tastes may be? This petition isn’t doing anything to protect the integrity and jam-centric nature of the event, it’s doing the opposite. By attacking another genre and stereotyping other humans are you not shaming what it is to be a Scamper?
On the offensive, it’s fair enough to not care for EDM. A lot of people don’t. I was almost trampled recently working an Above and Beyond show, and afterwards I seriously had my doubts. In that case, how cool would it be to expose the kandi kids to some down right nasty Umphrey’s for the first time? If you love something you want to share it with people, not judge them for being different than you.
So best case scenario for the people who filed this petition: Krewella is removed from the lineup due to overwhelming fan outrage. What about GRiZ, A-Trak, Destructo, Paul Oakenfold, Kill the Noise, Manic Focus, Paper Diamond, Break Science, Tchami, Haywyre, Protohype, Hermitude…need I go on? Summer Camp Festival will always be heavily catered to jam bands. It’s their roots, and from what I can tell they’re doing a damn good job of sticking to them.
So go do you. Go get down to Krewella, get down to Widespread Panic, hell get down to Miley Cyrus if that’s what makes you happy, but drop the judgmental attitudes because it’s festival season, and we ain’t got time for that.
