Recently in the scene, you can’t turn around without hearing about a new Kris Kross Amsterdam smash hit. After “SEX” and “Are You Sure,” the trio is back in the spotlight with a new track, “Gone is the Night” ft. Jorge Blanco, which is sure to climb all the top charts and get stuck in our heads for a very long time. Since we’re such big fans of their collabs, we wanted to take advantage of our time chatting with them to focus on just this – who would be featured in their dream collab? Check out what the guys revealed, plus a ton of other cool insights they shared with us in the full interview below.
RR: We absolutely loved “Gone is the night”! Tell us a bit about how this track came to life.
We started with the idea for the chorus, and then began to work on the melody lines. After that, the lyrics came to life and the drop was created. We actually wanted to add a four-to-the-floor beat at first, but later added a more bubbling rhythm, which worked brilliantly. We’re super proud of the end result.
RR: Whilst different from “Sex” or “Are You Sure?”, the new single still manages to capture your unique style. What are the key elements that make for a Kris Kross Amsterdam song?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: This record holds everything we stand for, a mix of different styles (pop, bubbling, disco) all in one track. What we also really appreciate is that it’s more up tempo than ‘SEX’ and ‘Are You Sure’, but still captures the Kris Kross Amsterdam feeling very much..
RR: You guys collaborate with the coolest vocalists! First Conor Maynard with “Are you sure?” and now Jorge Blanco. How did you end up working on “Gone is the night” with him?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: When making this record, we had Robin Thicke in mind for the vocals, or at least someone with a high range. Then we heard of Jorge Blanco, asked him to sing a demo and were sold immediately! He’s from Mexico, so we also have a Spanish version laying around, which should come out soon!
RR: Speaking of collaborations, if you could collab with anyone, dead or living, who would you choose?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: Most of all: Michael Jackson. But sadly he’s not alive anymore. Jordy and Sander are truly the biggest fans, we even have a BAD tattoo. Another idol of ours, one that’s still alive, is Pharrell Williams, working with him would be awesome!
RR: How was this year for you guys? What are the highlights of 2017?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: Early 2017 we released ‘Are You Sure’ together with Conor Maynard & Ty Dolla $ign, that surely was a highlight. Then we had shows at festivals like Flying Dutch, Tomorrowland and Mysteryland, played in Portugal and did an Asia tour last month, we’ll remember this forever.
RR: What are you doing for the holidays?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: We’re about to go to London to do a little bit of Christmas shopping and eating with our best friends. For the rest, we actually like our job so much we’re not thinking about going on holiday at all.
RR: What do you have planned for next year? Any surprises?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: Lots of releases coming up, including a collab with The Vamps. Furthermore we’ll be touring in Asia again in February, and doing loads of cool gigs and hostings.
RR: Where do you see the EDM scene in 5 years? What will change when it comes to producing and shows?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: We feel the crossover sounds will only increase, more live elements to go with that development, not only looking at DJ’s performing, and more interaction with the audience.
RR: And now onto the fun questions! What was your favourite show this year?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: Arcadia Festival in Taiwan, we were playing in some sort of giant spider with flames, the audience was really excited, we felt like MJ 😉

Kris Kross Amsterdam: 18

Kris Kross Amsterdam: Burning Man
RR: Any personal resolutions for 2018?
Kris Kross Amsterdam: We want a top 50 worldwide hit on Spotify and Deezer 🙂
