It doesn’t take an electronic music expert to be able to hear that Avicii and Kygo have a similar style when it comes to their productions. We have heard Kygo mention numerous times that Avicii is one of his biggest musical influences but do Kygo’s musical skills deserve a place on a track with one of musics most sought after names?
The history of these two artists date back to 2014 when Kygo had remixed the Syn Cole track “Miami 82” for a remix contest hosted by Avicii’s record label Le7els. After being online for one day, Kygo was approached by the label about making his remix an official release. This was the point where the Norwegian’s career would take off.
We already know that Kygo’s productions reflect Tim Bergling’s work, but has the Swede taken some inspiration from the Tropical House sensation? This year at Ultra Music Festival in Miami we saw Avicii premiere some of his latest work which is going to be apart of his second studio album Stories. Right off the bat we notice that the tempo of these new tracks have a significantly slower BPM which seems closer to tempo in which Kygo is known to produce. In this latest track titled “Can’t Catch Me” we notice a new side to Avicii which features some tropical-like influence.
So is the music world in store for possibly one of the biggest collaborations of all time? Well no one can say for sure, but some things have appeared recently that possibly point in that direction.
First, Avicii has announced that Kygo will be joining him for the closing party of his Ushuaia residency in Ibiza. Both artists seemed genuinely excited about the announcement on their social media pages. This will be Kygo’s first time on the magical island and surely won’t be a show to miss if you are a fan of either artist.
Sometimes one word can tell an entire story, well in this case Stories. On Sunday Myles Shear, Kygo’s manager, simply tweeted the word “Stories.” Now this could totally be nothing, or he could possibly be referring to the title of Avicii’s new album. Are we going to see an Avicii & Kygo collaboration on his new album?
For now we can only ponder the thought of this massive collaboration. One can only imagine the amazing musical composition and melodical work that will go into a track made by these two artists. The possibilities that these two have if they work together would be endless. In the meantime we can be assured that both artists will continue to push their respective solo careers and deliver us more timeless music.
