Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know the sleekest, sexiest, and chillest new sounds are coming out of the humble town of Bergen, home of Kygo. In the past year, the 22-year-old prodigy has exploded due to a series of soul-melting remixes, which led to his first guest DJ spot on Diplo & Friends and now a feature on Pet Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show, where Kygo’s remix of Coldplay’s “Midnight” was premiered.
The instrumentals were expectedly familiar, but the structure of the song felt refreshingly elongated, each slur of the keyboard and vocals creating a special heart-throbbing moment that seemed to pass in slow-motion, no matter how many times you listen. I’m not sure if it’s the elegant melody, great remix choice, or Kygo’s fully-original style, but the Norway-native has surely captured the hearts of a culture once more.
