If you haven’t yet heard of Kyle Watson, consider this our belated holiday gift to you and your ears (and dancing abilities.)
The classically trained musician and South Africa native is on a one-way path to the realms of house-music legendary thanks to his slew of game-changing, dance floor anthems released over the course of the past year. Now, Watson is adding to an already impressive list with this release of his latest EP Pop Up/ Camouflage Cat out now on This Ain’t Bristol.
In “Pop Up,” Watson’s signature deep, growling basslines are layered over slithering synthesizers and booty-shaking backbeats to create a sound that is exclusively his own, yet seems signature to the tech-house genre. Breath-takingly low, gritty vocals create the perfect contrast of sound, begging our bodies to “pop up a little bit” over and over again. The EP’s second track, “Camouflage Cat” begins with swirling, cinematic synths before dropping into a steady, head-bobbing beat that bubbles over with energy.
His tracks possess an aurora of bouncing, shaking energy that you’ll have to hear for yourself to believe, so check out the EP above and hop aboard the Kyle Watson train – you may never want to hop off.
