If you’ve yet to hear of Lance Herbstrong, consider this a worthy introduction. Lance Herbstrong is composed of Kamal Soliman, Bill Sarver, and Peter DiStefano. For those alt-rock fans out there, you might know Peter DiStefano as the guitarist from Porno for Pyros, the Jane’s Addiction offshoot. This song features various harmonious overlays which succeed in marrying rock god Jimi Hendrix’s “All Along the Watchtower” with electronic hero Pretty Light’s smash hit “Finally Moving”.
The story behind this track’s creation by Lance Herbstrong goes something like this
Last summer, as we were road trippin, we were listening to Pretty Lights.
Finally Moving came on and Pete said it sounded like Jimi Hendrix. He grabbed his guitar and started strumming All Along The Watch Tower as it played..We struggled with the Etta James sample…. To be honest, it’s played out, over-used and we spent months over-thinking it. We worried the over-use of it would take away from the beauty of two legendary musicians singing to each other from the grave. As we stood on the stage at Wakarusa last summer watching Pretty Lights with our team and friends.. Derek played Finally Moving. Watching the crowd singing “sometimes I get a good feeling” together in the beautiful Ozark mountains we knew we had to leave it in.
With other great combos like Peter Tosh+Sublime, Lance Herbstrong might be pulling away from the pack of the good vibe tribe and we couldn’t care less if they are doping or not. Check out the song below and be sure to check out their SoundCloud for more tuneage.
