We’re huge fans of Lane 8’s emotional and texturally filled productions, his track “Fingerprint” has been wildly successful and his recent EP released on his own imprint- This Never Happened, brings us more of what we love with upbeat “Divina” which gets it’s name from the debut of the track on Holy Ship and “Crush” a melodic continuation of what Lane 8 is known for. But it’s the concept of a new project he’s bringing cities all over North America that really caught our eye.
“I’ve been playing both of these tracks a ton over the summer and are so thrilled that they are coming out on This Never Happened, as they are 100% in line with what the label is about – those transcendent, dark, beautiful dance floor moments where everyone can just close their eyes and forget everything for a few hours. – Lane 8
Imagine attending a show, but having no evidence to prove you were ever there. A whole night of completely shutting yourself off from the world while soaking in the people, lights and music with nothing to distract, disturb or pull you away from the sensory filled happenings enveloping you.
The no cell phone party concept kicked off about two months ago at San Fransisco’s Mezzanine. A sold out show and no social media evidence of it equals big success. Lane 8 is now taking the concept and spreading it through cities such as Miami, LA, DC, Toronto and more.
My team and I were super anxious about whether we could pull an event like this off,” explains Daniel on the debut event at Mezzanine in May. “We debated so many different technologies and little tools that could help us accomplish our no-phones-on-the-dancefloor goal, but ultimately we decided that if the fans didn’t buy into the concept and self-enforce the core values, no amount of technology would help us. We focused on getting the message out – letting people know what our vision is and why we think it’s so important. San Francisco is possibly the most tech-hip city in the US, but not only did 99% of people keep their phones in their pockets the entire night, they also had a noticeably better time at the show. That show reinforced even more what we believe in and that what we’re doing is something that the music community actually wants and needs.” – Lane 8 on This Never Happened Party
While most of us are attached to our phones and it can be tempting to pull it out take a shot in the dark and disconnect yourself for one night. Dive into this new concept 100% and you’re sure to come out with an experience unlike anything saved in your handheld computer.
