Last Heroes have quickly infiltrated the melodic bass scene within the past year and found a home at Seven Lions’ Ophelia Records. Just within the past few months, we have seen multiple releases from the Colorado-based duo, including the double-sided No Sleep//Naked Soul, “Don’t Wanna Fall” with Seven Lions and HALIENE, and most recently EP teaser, “Passing Through”, featuring Trove.
Clocking in at eight tracks, Finding Light fully encompasses their mission to bring us together and remind everyone that we all have an impact. Whether it is big or small, we can end up bringing light to those stuck in dark places. Tapping artists like New Zealand acoustic band Woodlock, indie folk singer-songwriter Clay Finnesand, vocalist Heather Sommer and others, the EP is a flush transcendence in what their sound can achieve. Exploring the realms of indie, folk, pop on a melodic bass foundation, fans really get to experience a full auditory spectrum.
Outside of tracks we have already had the pleasure of falling in love with prior to the official EP release with “Love Like Us” and “Passing Through”, we found some powerful ear worms. We get a cinematic introduction with “Daybreak”, where the sounds of nature waking up to the sunrise flourish with inspiring strings and booming percussion. This truly gets us in the right head space. On “Better For It” with Clay Finnesand, we adore the lyrics and heartfelt guitar melody. With verses like, “I’ve been a stranger in my own skin” and “I might just be afraid of the silence / Hearing these voices that say I won’t make it”, really hit home for a lot us and we find the chorus really uplifts us from those spaces. Diving in further, we find beautiful synths raining down into our headphones in “Atlas”, pumping dance energy in “Forevermore”, and the divine marriage between melodic bass and folk with “In My Head”. And there is still so much more beauty to find in this EP.
