Every bedroom producer dreams of the day they get a message from their dream labels, and let’s be honest here, it doesn’t happen all the time and there is no such thing as over night success after making music for only a month or a week, but if you put in the time and effort and make connections for your music over the years, eventually you will get those opportunities you dreamed about. With that being said, house producer Lee Walker sat down with Point Blank to discuss his latest breakout hit “Freak Like Me” which was a co-release from Ministry of Sound and Defected Records.
DJ Mag hosted the Best of British Awards and Walker was awarded the “Best Remix” for his work on “Freak Like Me.” The track was a collaboration with UK singer Katy B and it features a combination of groovy thumping basslines and catchy vocals to form the song of the year in 2016. The track gained international success when it was first featured on Annie Mac’s “Hottest Record” and Pete Tong’s “Essential New Tune” the same night and catapulted Walker’s career. Because of the recent success on this track he is now being booked to play the gigs he’s always wanted to and has been given releases on some of his favorite labels.
If any producers want to learn how he did it, check out the Point Blank interview, which describes what it was like to wake up to a viral video of his track, and how to be pro-active about getting your music heard and potentially signed be sure to watch the full interview as he goes into detail about the track, what his thought process and marketing tactics were and what he plans to do for future projects.
