Lights All Night’s eighth annual festival is set to return to Dallas Market Hall in Dallas, Texas this December 29-30 over New Years Eve weekend. News of its Phase 1 lineup was released recently, showcasing players like Bassnectar, Porter Robinson, Illenium, Seven Lions, Destructo, Drezo, Tokimonsta, and more. Along with this came a very special announcement — LAN and several of its top performing artists this year agreed to a unique partnership to provide a special-priced “Houston Relief Pass.” For one week, soon-to-be attendees had the option to purchase a festival ticket with a $10 donation, which was then matched by the festival and seven participating artists – a total donation of $90 per ticket. All donations are to be sent to the Houston Food Bank directly. While it’s still TBD on the total amount of money raised thus far, we can’t help but focus on this commendable act itself and the spirit and drive of LAN to help their neighbors in this catastrophic time of need.
In the wake of these efforts, we were lucky enough to talk with LAN’s co-founder Scott Osburn to gain a little more insight on their Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, and what #LANfam can expect out of the 2017 festival.
What sparked the idea to utilize LAN as a means to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston?
Scott Osburn: We saw our planned announce date and the timing of the catastrophe in Houston as an opportunity to help. We know that we have so many fans that travel from Houston to Lights All Night every year. This seemed like an opportunity to create a campaign with strong exposure that could create a substantial impact.
Were there any members part of the LAN family that were directly affected by this disaster?
Scott Osburn: Aside from our friends in the industry and fans, there was no direct family members from LAN affected.
How were you able to convince artists to match donations?
Scott Osburn: The artists were very receptive to this campaign immediately. We were able to secure artist commitments in less than 36 hours from the time we asked for their support. It was pretty amazing to see these people commit to help their Texas fans so quickly.
Will there be any additional way attendees can donate to Hurricane Harvey through LAN?
Scott Osburn: We are working on some ideas on how we can continue to use LAN as a vehicle to provide support for Hurricane Harvey Relief. We hope to have more information on some potential plans soon.
What are you most excited about for this year?
Scott Osburn: Our team is working on some new exciting stage design and decor this year. We are working to provide unique and never before seen production aspects to LAN. Every year we try and reinvent ourselves to provide the best experience for our fans. I’m also really excited for the complete artist lineup coming out in the next few weeks. I think this is going to be one of our better lineups, there’s something for everyone.
The lineup appears a bit more bass oriented for 2017. Any hint if the final two headliners will follow suit with that?
Scott Osburn: I want to give a hint so badly but that would ruin the surprise 🙂
Are there any new or surprise elements this year that are different to last year?
Scott Osburn: Nothing that I can comment on today. But we are working to create a new experience never before seen at LAN or in Texas.
