Liquid Stranger, the production heavyweight who has blessed us with hip-hop and ragga bass music for years, returns with the fantastic fourth installment of his Infusion mixes. As the name implies, the Infusion mixes blend a host of different musical styles into one long, seamless mix, with bass being the common denominator among the many tracks.
Vol. 4 in particular runs through future bass, trap, dubstep, hip-hop, ska, moombahton and a mix of other genres. Some purists may shun the mix for its diversity, but realistically it has something for everyone. The track list is massive (jungle-type “MASSIVE”), and highlights this diversity. Starting with soft psychedelic future bass from Koan Sound and Haywyre, Jack U makes an appearance with “Mind” before a near-perfect ska remix of Major Lazer’s “Watch Out For Dis” which is classic Liquid Stranger. Virtually any electronic artist who made a splash in 2015 is mixed in, with Pretty Lights, Tipper, Bassnectar, Odesza, Flume, Diplo and .illGates all making appearances. Missy Elliott, 2Pac, Ludacris and hip-hop old heads Ultramagnetic MC’s also make appropriate cameos.
Infusion Vol. 4 is perfect for those long car rides to festivals this summer. The more mainstream hip-hop featured in it make it a great mix for introducing unseasoned ears to electronic music, as virtually all styles of electronic music are present. Liquid Stranger’s supreme mixing style ensures that each track flows beautifully into the next, with delightful and groovy surprises waiting around the corner of each bass-filled breakdown.
