Touching down in Philadelphia for the first time in over a year, Lotus fans across the tri-state area were understandably ecstatic when news broke about their upcoming tour. Philly fanatics had the honor of hosting opening night at the beloved Electric Factory, and the venue proved just the perfect spot for the occasion. No bells and whistles…no CO2 cannons…just a clean and simple venue ideal for a night of jamming out with your friends.
Playing the role of opener to an early arriving crowd was El Ten Eleven. Whether it was due to recognition of the duo’s fantastic sound or eager anticipation of Lotus’ impending set (likely a combination of both), the walls were packed early with fans moving and grooving to their upbeat tunes. Leaving to a round of applause from the crowd, it likely won’t be long before we get to see these two guys again. Before we knew it though, it was Lotus who was stepping on stage.
Opening up with “Jump Off” and not letting their foot off the gas for one second, this group of five had the crowd dancing from the start and loving every minute of it. Hitting on favorites like “Blue Giant“, “Spaghetti” and “Hammerstrike“, there was no end to the live edits and long, extended jamming. At some points you wondered how drummer Mike Greenfield’s arms didn’t fall off while supplying his signature touch to the band.
Following a brief intermission after earning a well deserved breather, Lotus went right back to it for their second set of the night. At times throughout their three hour set, it looked so effortless that it almost felt like these guys were jamming out in their garage and we were all invited to watch. Tracks like “Juggernaut“, “Cold Facts“, “It’s All Clear” and fan favorite “Bubonic Tonic” kept the energy high right up until the very end. Stepping off stage and returning for a three-track encore, Lotus left us with “Greet The Mind” and with that, the night was over.
An expectedly great set from an awesome group of musicians, the Electric Factory was in full swing last Friday. A big thank you to El Ten Eleven and Lotus for putting on a great show. Absolutely make sure to catch Lotus at a stop near you on their current tour, grab your tickets here if you haven’t yet. You certainly won’t regret it.
