Aria and Nick are Louis Vivet, an upcoming duo. If you’re a fan of horror, then their name might strike a chord with you. Louis Vivet was the first mental patient to be diagnosed with split personalities and was the influence for the novella Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
They recently released a track on Thrive Music featuring vocals from the talented singer Gavrielle. Their track “Best Thing” blends in an atmosphere of upbeat electronic music and house breakdowns. We’ve recently been able to connect with Louis Vivet and talk to them about their past, come up, future plans, and more.
Did you always want to be in the music industry? What do you believe you would be doing now if you weren’t?
Aria: For me, it hadn’t even crossed my mind until a few years ago. Nick and I started making music together just for fun and it slowly progressed to the point where we realized we could actually do this full time.
Nick: For me, I always knew I wanted to be in the industry, whether it be making music for my own project or producing for other artists. Growing up, kids around me looked up to athletes and movie stars, but I always looked up to guys like Max Martin and Stéphane Pompougnac. There isn’t anything else I would want to do but make music.
Do you believe attending Icon Collective helped you get to where you are today?
Nick: Absolutely. It provided a unique opportunity to be completely immersed in a musical environment. I was able to nurture my creative process and hone my technical skills. Also, access to top of line studios has helped us tremendously.
Do you find being in a duo better then being solo artists? Why or why not?
Aria: Yes definitely, two creative minds are greater than one. Being in a duo allows us to bounce ideas off each other and provide constant feedback. We each have a different perspective when building a track that really complements each other.
Nick: It also helps that we trust each other and can be honest if we really don’t like something. We started off as good friends before starting our working relationship.
When you work on new projects and prepare for shows, how do you split the work?
Nick: There’s no set way we split up the work. When we start a new project, we each may have an idea on the direction of a song and we’ll try different things out. We see what works and what doesn’t. I usually handle more of the vocal production for our songs and Aria does a little more with the live show preparation, but we each have an active part in everything we do.
What has been your most memorable moment as “Louis Vivet” and why?
Aria: Our most memorable moment would have to be working with Gareth Emery on his new album ‘100 Reasons to Live’. We were able to get in the studio with him and Gavrielle and help with the vocal production on ‘Far From Home’. We learned a lot from him as well. Just sitting in the studio with such a legendary artist was a surreal moment for us. Also, we were invited to play his Electric For Life pool party at the SLS Hotel in Miami, which was incredible. We wouldn’t be where we are now without his support.
Do you guys have any interesting pre-show rituals?
Aria: We usually watch a horror movie the night before. It really calms the nerves.
Are there any goals you hope to achieve in 2016?
Nick: Releasing an EP and going on our own tour is definitely a goal for us. Also would love to score a movie but that’s probably for another time.
