Freeing music by making music free. This simple mantra of the Lowtemp label speaks volumes as to why the diehard fan-base loves it so passionately. Pioneered by head honcho Gramatik, each release on the record label is available for free download, usually through SoundCloud or BitTorrent. This kind of ready availability of music has played a large part in the exploding popularity of the label by getting these funky, genre-bending tunes into the ears of anyone and everyone willing to give it listen.
Electric Forest surprised many this year when they announced the addition of six curated stages throughout the weekend. There will be the legendary Carl Cox & Friends stage, the Bassrush stage and four others all with a common musical theme. However, none we believe will be as fun and downright groovy as the Lowtemp stage nestled right in the heart of the Sherwood Forest.
The Lowtemp crew that will officially be in attendance for the showcase will be Russ Liquid, Gibbz, Branx, and Freddy Todd. While Gramatik isn’t scheduled to play at this stage alongside his compadres, it’s not exactly a leap of faith to believe he’ll be stepping on and off all day in true Lowtemp fashion.
As if you needed any convincing, take a look below as we break down each performer at this perfect side stage…
Russ Liquid – Saturday 2:00 A.M. – 3:30 A.M.
Whether you dig the nasty sax solos, the sweet flute or the blaring trumpet of Russ Liquid, there’s no denying that the Forest Stage will prove to be the ideal spot for a late night jam sesh on Saturday once we’ve all collected our brain matter from what Bassnectar has planned. Russ has been enjoying a fast rise in popularity lately, as fans seem to finally be appreciating him for the multi-talented musician he is. You can be sure to find us in attendance as we close the books on Saturday night (really Sunday morning), and we can’t wait to see what one of our favorite artists has to offer in an environment like this one.
Gibbz – Saturday 1:00 A.M. – 2:00 A.M.
Ever since catapulting himself onto the radar of Lowtemp diehards through Gramatik’s The Age Of Reason LP, Gibbz has been making a name for himself and hasn’t looked back. Supplying very distinct, unique old-school vibe vocals, Gibbz and Lowtemp are a match made in heaven…especially considering the heavily old-school samples which Gramatik’s tunes are founded on. Catch Gibbz at 1:00 AM strumming the guitar, running the MPC, or singing his heart out. Odds are there might be a special guest or two or three.
Branx – Saturday 11:30 P.M. – 1:00 A.M.
Signed to Lowtemp in 2013, Branx brings along a unique style that’s noticeably “harder” than most of his label-mates. He’s got the same future-funk sound that Exmag might have, but he’ll also incorporate some nasty glitch and dubstep vibes into his tracks. The Baltimore-born producer is fresh off his Plants & Animals LP alongside Exmag, and is sure to keep the Lowtemp vibes going right up to Gibbz.
Freddy Todd – Saturday 10:00 P.M. – 11:30 P.M.
One of the earlier sets of the showcase is also one of our most anticipated acts of the day. Freddy Todd brings along with him some unmistakable glitch-hop and will be a treat for everyone in attendance, supplying a little less grove and a lot more head thumping beats. This guy’s a fast riser and has really shot up the ranks in the past year, we expect 2015 to be a lot more of the same.
